Team GB Athlete Chris Thompson is taking part in the Hilly 10K!

We are delighted to be partnered with Persimmon Homes for the 2022 Winchester Marafun. Persimmon are supporting all the amazing teams of marshals around the route and race village! As part of the partnership, Persimmon Homes have invited Team GB Athlete Chris Thompson to take part in the Winchester Hilly 10K.

A staggering 26 years on from his international debut, Chris Thompson made a fairy tale return to the Team GB ranks for Tokyo 2020.

Five days after his son Theo came into the world, Thompson shattered a marathon personal best that stood for seven years at the British Athletics Marathon and 20km Walk Trial at Kew Gardens. He completed the course in two hours, 10 minutes and 52 seconds.

Thompson represented Team GB at the London 2012 Olympic Games, finishing 25th in the 10,000m.

In 2010, Thompson was part of a British one-two in the 10,000m at the European Championships with the man who won Olympic 10,000m gold in 2012 - Mo Farah.

Thompson’s wife - Jemma Simpson - represented Team GB over 800m at Beijing 2008.

Chris Thompson, 2x Olympic athlete and Team GB marathon runner, said:

“I’m grateful to Persimmon Homes for inviting me to represent Team GB at the Winchester Marafun.

“Hampshire is where I currently live and grew up as an aspiring athlete, so I’m thrilled to be involved in this local race as I continue my quest to represent Team GB at my third Olympic Games.

“I’m very much looking forward to meeting the community groups and sports clubs that Persimmon are supporting, as well as the runners taking part. All of us at Team GB are very proud to partner with Persimmon Homes and it is exciting to be part of this community event.”
